Workshop with Long Beach Community Arts at PLACE LB
HOW TO USE A SEWING MACHINE WITH RADICAL SEWISTS!
Saturday, July 12: 12 - 3 PM
Come join us for another introduction to sewing machines workshop at Place LB! Learn how to thread and operate a domestic sewing machine, learn a few troubleshooting tricks, and sew your own reversible handkerchief! Sewing machines will be provided!
Through teaching, Radical Sewist envisions a sewing community for BIPOC, queer, and trans people. We see sewing not only as an individual’s way to reject capitalism, but as a collective’s tool to manifest liberation. We denounce fashion as much as we denounce fascism; we aspire to connection as much as we aspire to creation. Community is our heart–and to us, that means holding space for the interweaving of disability, race, culture, queerness, and neurodivergence. We aim to be a nurturing, co-created place: a space where self-care is a priority and all abilities are welcome. Won’t you join us, comrade?
