It's Alive! A hands-on DIY 16mm cameraless animation workshop
What is cameraless animation you ask? It’s a super fun and liberating technique where footage is produced by creating the images directly on film stock using pens, paint, stickers, flowers, paper, plastic bags, glitter or whatever else your creative mind can conceive. So ditch the camera and start animating! All ages and experience levels are welcome!

In this 3 hour workshop, we’ll explore the history of surrealism, examples from cinema history, and the art world. Then we will practice surrealist writing through different exercises like automatic writing and found objects to unlock our impulses, imagination, and connections to the unconscious. Putting it together in a final project, we’ll share our scenes on their feet through collaborative ensemble work!

INTRO TO WHEATPASTING
In this workshop you will learn how to create a poster with a socio-political theme, applying linocut and printing techniques with foam sheets, and how to prepare wheatpasting mix to stick it on surfaces such as walls. It is recommended to bring a sketch of no more than 4 x 6 to work from. No experience needed. Open to ages 15+.

3TONcinema is an itinerant microcinema and 16mm film “orphanage” founded in 2009 in Oakland, CA. With their collection of roughly 1,001 ephemeral titles from the twentieth century, they seek to bring small-gauge analog cinema into the future in unexpected ways.

For nearly 50 years, the Bay Area filmmaker and curator Craig Baldwin has been an inspiring figure in contemporary media arts. His acerbic, densely-packed found footage films have traveled the globe, encouraging scores of nascent collage-essayists, culture jammers, and mockumentarians to action. The $20 workshop fee covers all the materials you'll need!

An Echo Park Film Center tradition makes its way to the city of Long Beach! It’s our open mic style cinematic free-for-all, daring you to share your film with a feisty EPFC/LBCMA audience. Or just come and watch! Any genre! Any style! New, old, work-in-progress! First come, first screened; one film per filmmaker; 10-minute maximum. We can accommodate most formats--digital file, web link, VHS, Super 8, 16MM etc.
